STORY
CAPTAIN
It all started with August Lau, who was respectfully called the “Brick King.” Initially an avid sailor with his own cargo ship on the Brake/Unterweser - New York route, he settled down - under gentle pressure from his future wife - and initially worked as a farmer. His starting capital: 2 cows and 2 horses. But soon he had other plans. In 1855 he built the first of eight brick factories near Seetel in Friesland, and ten years later another at Seetel-Schweinebrück, between Oldenburg and Wilhelmshaven. It was thanks to his foresight and dedication that the Frisian brickworks flourished.

INTERNATIONALIZATION
After the sudden death of Wilhelm August Röben, Wilhelm Röben, who was barely 21 years old, took over his inheritance in November 1956. Thanks to him, the company expanded in a few years and became one of the most important in the industry in Europe. 127 years after his great-grandfather's first crossing of the Atlantic, Wilhelm Röben landed there in 1979 as an investor and purchased the Triangle Brick factory in North Carolina, USA.

FIRST PLANT

In 1900, he handed over the brick factory in Zetel Schweinebrück to his son-in-law Bernhard Friedrich Röben, where the family business is still headquartered today. Twenty years later, his son Wilhelm August Reuben took over the company, which in the meantime was successfully introduced and expanded.

GLOBALIZATION

Wilhelm-Renke Röben joined management in 1989 as a representative of the 5th generation of Röben. Under his leadership, a new clinker plant was built in North Carolina, USA, and, since 1995, a clinker and tile plant in Neumarkt, Poland. Finally, in May 2016, the 5th US clinker plant opened in Clay County, Texas.

OUR TIME

Röben continues to concentrate its activities on the German market. Large sums are being invested in expanding the factories to ensure that they all produce products to the highest technical and environmental standards. This ensures that the builder always has beautiful products of the highest quality and sustainability available to complete his building project; for a durable, healthy brick residential building.

[05]

In 16 factories in Europe and the USA (with another one being built there), Röben produces a wide range of clinker bricks, clinker tiles, precast brick products, clay tiles and porcelain tiles. Products are controlled from our headquarters in Zetel, Friesland, and distributed throughout the world. All factories produce in accordance with the latest state of technology: Innovative plant technology and optimized thermal cycles, in which, for example, waste heat from one process is used to optimize a subsequent production step, significantly reduce energy consumption. A state-of-the-art energy management system ensures further optimization.
