One of the most unusual projects in Amsterdam, designed by local architect Mark Koehler for a family of three.
“The uneven masonry provides ideal support for climbing plants that might climb up the wall,” says Mark Koehler. As on the ground floor terrace and roof garden, kiwis, climbing roses and grapevines have been planted here. “In a few years, the house will be completely green, giving the strongly geometric architecture an edge.”
When choosing black clinker bricks, the designers chose clinker from Röben FARO schwarz-nuanciert, glatt. “To maintain the abstract nature of the architecture, I specifically looked for brick that was as black as possible,” says Mark Koehler, explaining the choice of material. “It was also very important that they were of high quality so that the façades would not be damaged by plant roots.”
